On Cue

On cue, the robins have arrived. I'm not really sure why robins are synonymous with Spring, but they seem to take their job very seriously. This year I think I saw my very first robin on the very first day of Spring, and now they are everywhere. I see them hopping around my backyard lawn, clustering up in the spruce tree, and exciting the chickadees into a raucous show.

Maybe that is why we think of Spring when robins come to mind. They awaken the dormant landscape and rustle the hibernating creatures out of their dens. Robins ignite the new life that is waiting for its big moment, to prove to us all that it was worth the wait.

As a reminder, tomorrow's normal nature journaling class has been rescheduled for April 6th. We will be drawing and painting lichen. I have been out collecting some pretty unique specimens! We'll have magnifying glasses to use so we can all get close and personal with the crazy shapes and colors of these fungi. You can sing up for the class here.

What are Little Moments you say? This is a once weekly newsletter that I hope is a small nudge or ounce of motivation for you to get outside and observe the natural world. It doesn't have to be grandiose, a small leaf on the ground, an interesting rock, anything you notice that you pay enough attention to casually sketch it or paint it in a journal. All the Little Moments add up to a life lived more observantly, grounded in the natural world.
