Joy is in the Air

The daffodils are blooming, the apple and pear trees have burst into little white and pink pom poms, and the tulips are emerging from the ground. Every day I see new flowers shining their little faces towards the sun. In celebration of all this joy, I wanted to share with you all an excerpt from a book I am working on, Learning How to Be: Creating an Art Practice to Ground Yourself in Our Increasingly Mediated World. This is an intro lesson to drawing and painting flowers and I hope you use it to draw a newly bloomed flower! You can download the pdf here.

If you have the time, reply to this email with your picture, I will so enjoy seeing what you create!

In more celebration of the new growth all around, we will be focusing on emerging buds in tomorrow's nature journaling class. I'll bring in branches, leaves, and flowers to study and observe how the leaf or flower starts as a bud and grows into its final form. If you would like to join and have not yet signed up, please do so here.

One more announcement! I am honored to have an entry in the show Fiber and Form that will be opening at Coconino Center for the Arts tonight. The show will run until June 7 and is open to the public. My piece is called Moonrise and you can see a preview of it here. If you are in the area, stop by while the show is happening to see all the incredible pieces crated by local artists.

What are Little Moments you say? This is a once weekly newsletter that I hope is a small nudge or ounce of motivation for you to get outside and observe the natural world. It doesn't have to be grandiose, a small leaf on the ground, an interesting rock, anything you notice that you pay enough attention to casually sketch it or paint it in a journal. All the Little Moments add up to a life lived more observantly, grounded in the natural world.

If you have a friend who you think would enjoy this blog post, please consider sharing.
