Noticing the Growth

Documenting the spring and summer growth in my backyard is a hobby I've taken up over the past couple years. It's taken different forms, starting with pictures on my phone to now using my nature journal to illustrate the progression of our flowers. Irises are my favorite to document, new buds and stems seem to grow from nothing, overnight. Poppies are another favorite, and those you can document on an hourly schedule as they unfurl their petals daily to greet the sun.

I invite you to find something to document over the next few weeks. Maybe it's a backyard flower or a fruiting tree or a sprout in your garden.

I have found the more I take notice of the rhythms of the natural world, the more connected and grounded I feel. I am better equipped to handle the daily stressors of our modern lives. I'd wager it could do the same for you.

What are Little Moments you say? This is a once weekly newsletter that I hope is a small nudge or ounce of motivation for you to get outside and observe the natural world. It doesn't have to be grandiose, a small leaf on the ground, an interesting rock, anything you notice that you pay enough attention to casually sketch it or paint it in a journal. All the Little Moments add up to a life lived more observantly, grounded in the natural world.
