New Beginnings

Yesterday I got out for a much-needed walk after a few very windy days spent huddled inside. The air was crisp and still, the setting sun brilliantly illuminating the forest. I passed by quite a few fellow walkers and joggers, everyone seemingly grateful for the respite from the wind. I came across some clustered pine trees that had a gang of Mountain Chickadees noisily flying from one tree to another. Their flight and song seemed so joyful, I couldn't help but smile. With great difficulty I snapped a picture of one to take back home and draw. As I swiped my paintbrush over the pudgy little belly of the chickadee, I was reminded of the simple joy of breathing in the clean fresh air of the forest and the beauty present in all the Little Moments.

What are Little Moments you say? This is a once weekly newsletter that I hope is a small nudge or ounce of motivation for you to get outside and observe the natural world. It doesn't have to be grandiose, a small leaf on the ground, an interesting rock, anything you notice that you pay enough attention to casually sketch it or paint it in a journal. All the Little Moments add up to a life lived more observantly, grounded in the natural world.
